It was a noisy day. The excavators were here and they scooped up quite a bit of the gravel from the temporary road across the lawn and dumped it into the bump out.
Ethan dumped the gravel out, and another guy whose name I didn't get, used a jackhammer-like tamping device to pound it in.
Normally, Maggie would have been passed out on the chair by the slider, but she was nowhere to be found, imagine that. Later she materialized from under the bed.
Voila. Next up: the concrete guys will come back and pour the slab.
And yes, we did lay out the bathroom today. We changed the orientation of the tub, and the location of the doorway into the bathroom. We wound up putting the doorway in the one place I didn't want it to be (in the wall facing the rest of the room) -- but on the bright side, the layout really does work better, and it allows the closet to be even bigger.
Then Kevin and I went back to the tile shop to return the sample board we'd borrowed. From there, we went to a bathroom/kitchen place and got a sense of what vanities run...a lot, apparently. Then we went to the flooring place...learned that the flooring guys strongly recommend against using cork for flooring in bathrooms...onwards to Plan B: bamboo (cheaper, actually, which is handy, given what we did next.)
We then went to a granite/stonework place and looked at all their scraps, for the vanity's countertop. (Since they're scraps anyway, they're looking to offload this stuff, and you can get a deal. Kevin took home a heavy handful of random stuff.) We found this one amazing slab - greens and blacks and rusty red - an astonishing sight. We'll figure out whether we can all agree on a price for that this week. And then we get to revisit the earlier decisions for tile/flooring to make sure they still work. And then we figure out where to get a vanity. Such fun!
